Positive Case at Kamaile

April 19, 2021,

Aloha Kamaile Academy School Community,

Kamaile Academy PCS was informed on April 18th that an employee received confirmation that they contracted COVID-19. To our knowledge, this employee did not contract COVID-19 while working on campus and we are hopeful he/she will make a fast recovery. Out of respect for the individual’s privacy, we will not share additional information about the employee.

The administration of Kamaile Academy immediately implemented the protocols recommended by the Hawaii Department of Education. These protocols started with contacting the Department of Health (DOH). The DOH will implement their procedures of contact tracing of those individuals who may have come into close contact with the employees.

According to the DOH, “close contact” is defined as (regardless of whether persons were wearing face masks):
Within 6 feet of an infected person over a 24-hour period for a combined total of 15 minutes or more
In direct contact with case’s secretions (e.g., being coughed on)
All persons (teachers and students) in the same classroom as the case for 15 minutes or longer.

All possible close contacts have been contacted and have been directed to stay home and isolate.

Our school, in coordination with the Charter School Commission, is taking the recommended precautions to ensure the safety of our staff and community.

Mahalo,

Paul Kepka
